Who To Nominate

Each year, generally in the Spring, each ABA Member Club is asked to submit someone worthy of this honored recognition. The Candidate should meet as many of the following criteria as they can. It is not necessary for the Candidate to "check ALL the boxes", however, the more they do, the better chance they have of making it into the ABA Hall of Fame. Each year all submitted bios are sent to all accessible Hall of Fame members. Each Hall of Famer votes individually for up to 3 (three) candidates. Those votes are collected confidentially, and totaled. Those candidates who get 50% of the total number of voting Hall of Famers plus at least 1 vote, qualifies for induction. New inductees into the ABA Hall of Fame (each year) are limited to two candidates, either an individual or married couple. Should more than 2 candidates get the required number of votes, those candidates are re-voted on by the Hall of Fame members to reach the limit of one or two for induction. Each Club can nominate only one individual or married couple each year. Qualities for qualification are listed but not all inclusive:

 1. Candidate must display a positive attitude within the Dance Community.

2. Candidate should have served on a Club Board or held an Officers position (length of time is additionally important).

3. Candidate should have taught (or Teaches) Swing Dance, Bop, Shag or Jitterbug (for their Club and other Clubs or events).

4. Candidates should have done things that are exemplary ie: managed a large project within the Club, DJed, done Demos, or have been in positions of authority for their Club or the Dance Community. Out of Town dance participation is also important.

5. Candidate should have received honorable mention or other awards that distinguish them in their Club and/or the Dance Community.

6. Candidate should have a reputation of volunteerism.

7. Anything that distinguishes them as contributing positively within the Dance Community.

How To Nominate a Candidate

To nominate a Candidate, each club, after their Board's approval, must submit a bio of the Candidates' qualities and accomplishments in both DOC and PDF Format electronically as directed in the submission request. They must also provide a JPG format photo (headshot) suitable for posting on the official ABA Hall of Fame Wall displayed at every ABA Convention site. (the "Wall" can be requested to be set up at ABA non-convention sites also if available) A 5x7 will be displayed along with a short synopsis of their bios permanently.

Bios should be limited to 2 pages for submission. The bios should be text only (no photos inserted in the bio) Once the vote is completed, the person submitting the bio (include person submitting the bio's name, and all contact information) will be contacted in advance, letting them know their candidate will be inducted and where, so they can notify the candidate and their Club of the results. It is expected that the Candidate will attend the ABA Convention where the induction is held. (They will receive one free ticket for attendance to the convention, but will be responsible for their transportation, lodging and other expenses)

This is not simply a "popularity contest" but may in some way factor into some voting decisions. Only people who have distinguished themselves, based on the above criteria will be eligible.

This outline is intended to be an overview for how it works, and not held specific to any one thing as all-inclusive with no exceptions.
